The AVMA   Quarterly Meeting took place in March. ACVIM VSOC Representative Dr. Jane Sykes and ACVIM CEO Shannon Carter, attended the meeting, in which several updates and discussions took place, including:

  • Plans for an in-person meeting to address training quality and accreditation for internships and residencies and discussion of solutions for oversight of training programs.
  • Discussion on redefining the VCPR (Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship) amidst industry changes. This includes concerns about proposed mid-level veterinary associate roles, monitoring proposed new veterinary schools and ensuring accreditation standards.
  • AVMA Board Liaison Dr. Robert Knapp reported on highlights from recent leadership and advocacy events and updates on legislative activities and initiatives. The formation of committees to address technological advancements and vet tech utilization is also underway.

We invite you to review the meeting minutes here for more information and to reach out to Dr. Sykes or Shannon Carter if you would like the VSOC to discuss or review a specific topic. The next virtual VSOC meeting will be held May 31.
